The SRA Board of Trustees

Ian Stanworth

Trustee/Chairman

Ian is sometimes found getting his hands dirty helping to maintain the track, killing weeds and cutting trees, is training to be a shunter and is the Noise and vibration advisor for the Railway.

Grant Ritchie

Trustee

I have been a volunteer since 2004. I’m willing to turn my hand at anything, but my main “railway roles” are DMU Driver and Signalman. I can usually be found tinkering with the class 117 DMU (which I am a part owner). I am also a member of the Spey Lodge User Group. My day job is a systems officer at a local council and I can assure you that driving the desk of the DMU is much more fun than a computer!

Bill Johnson

Bill Johnson

Trustee/Membership Secretary

Having joined the Association in 1989 following a shed Open Day and distance from Aviemore not withstanding I, when available from the day job made the long haul from Caithness to volunteer usually with the p/way team, they said you cannot break anything, that’s open to speculation. Following an appeal in the Express for a membership secretary and the day job becoming more involved and following an “interview” I was accepted into post which I have been doing since 1994, and having met, via renewal forms the many members who are the backbone of the railway. In March 2022 I was invited to become, a Director a post which I am very honoured to be in and hope to continue to benefit the not only the Association and all its members but the continuing success of the railway.

Dickon Sandbach

Trustee/Finance Director

Dickon joined the SRA Board in November 2019 as Finance Director. Before taking retirement, he had been a partner in a firm of Chartered Accountants for over 30 years. He had also been on the Finance Committee of the Nene Valley Railway for 15 years. He now lives in Inverness-shire. He was also involved with a number of charities as advisor or trustee. He helped the Association to achieve charitable status.

Brian Burgess

Trustee

I have been a volunteer now for nearly 25years and seen many changes. I am a guard on the railway which involves a lot of contact with the public. At present a driver/courier for Lochs and Glens holidays.

Chris Torry

Company Secretary

Oil and gas background in different roles but mainly administrative focused. Now retired and have been associated with Strathspey Railway for circa 20 years. Initially trained as a Guard and now moved to a catering role.

Dave Green

Trustee

After a career in aircraft, helicopter and submarine (Remote Operated Vehicles) engineering, I retired in 2015.
I have always had an interest in the engineering side of the whole railway, the simplicity and complexity of making everything work, safely.
I have volunteered in the engine shed since November 2013, enjoying the satisfaction of seeing things work after some difficult problem solving is very rewarding.
My input to the association board is to try and represent the engineering department aiming to keep the railway running.
